Treading the Path

Random musings: faith, quotes, treehouses, sports--the possibilities are endless.

“The one who purifies his soul succeeds, and the one who corrupts it fails.”

—   Qur’an, 91:9-10

I cannot be sure that anything I do will change things for the better, yet I can be sure that if I do not at least try, then I will fail to do what I think is right and will be contributing to keeping things the same. Therefore I will opt to do what is right, whether much or little comes of it.

Reflection: My Failed New Year’s Resolution

Just came across a notebook of mine in which I began my (failed) new year’s resolution for 2012. The resolution consisted of jotting down a lesson I learned or a final thought on my day before I went to bed each night. I only kept it up for a little over a month before I lost my notebook but it’s still interesting to see what I wrote down and to think back to that day early on in the year.
  1. You’re responsible for the effort, not the result.
  2. There’s a first time for everything.
  3. Those who truly appreciate you, appreciate the smallest of gestures.
  4. Spark inspiration, ignite change.
  5. Never turn away from an outstretched hand, it may change your life.
  6. Cherish each conversation/interaction, for it may be the last of its kind.
  7. Acknowledge differences, appreciate diversity.
  8. Asking for change isn’t enough, act on change/act in a changed way.
  9. Time is precious, make the most of it.
  10. Detachment brings you closer to that which is more important.
  11. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing something you sincerely prayed for actually happened.
  12. Advice is only as good as how much of it is acted on/put into practice.
  13. Always leave loved ones on good terms.
  14. You won’t regret spending extra time to get ahead on a task.
  15. Always portray yourself in a positive light.
  16. Perseverance pays off.
  17. It’s a pity when a student’s best interests aren’t on a professors mind.
  18. Wisdom lives forever.
  19. Stay away from complicated matters.
  20. Simply listening to someone can do wonders…for both of you.
  21. Don’t wait to do something that is important to you.
  22. Don’t read into things too much.
  23. A compliment a day keeps a frown away.
  24. Underrepresentation needs to be redefined.
  25. Fight for what you want.
  26. Appreciate those who listen.
  27. It is what it is.
  28. Ask, don’t assume.
  29. Be overprepared.
  30. People like hearing their own voices.
  31. Politics change everything.
  32. Fight for what you deserve.
  33. Communicate openly.

Ha, MY LIFE.
Apparently I just won tickets to the Arizona Cardinals vs Cleveland Browns game this weekend. But, uh, I live in New York. Fail.
I was such a hard worker last year. Fail.
